Roberts Blossom: ...is perhaps best known as a marvelously talented and versatile character actor renowned for his portrayal of cantankerous old men. Born in 1924 in New Haven, Connecticut, Blossom graduated from Asheville School and attended Harvard College. He made his film debut in the independent feature "The Sin of Jesus" (1961), but it wasn't until he was in his late forties that Roberts really hit his stride as an actor in motion pictures with a truly weird and unforgettable performance as the backwoods lunatic Ezra Cobb in the horror cult favorite "Deranged" (1974). Some of his other memorable film roles include a sickly soldier in "Slaughterhouse Five" (1972), an ornery father in "Citizen's Band" (1977), the farmer who saw Bigfoot in "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (1977), an old felon in "Escape from Alcatraz" (1979), a next door neighbor in "Home Alone" (1990), and a small town judge in "Doc Hollywood" (1991). Less well-known to the general public is Roberts’ remarkable poetry and prose, which are featured on this site. He currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
